Board of Directors

KSPHQ board meetings are held on the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 pm and are open to the public. All are welcome to attend. Due to the COVID Pandemic, all meetings are currently taking place via Zoom. Please contact us if you’d like to receive the Zoom link for our next meeting.

Board of Directors and Advisors

Our Board of Directors and advisors is a diverse community who strengthens the center and our critical activities.

Board members serve two-year, once-renewable terms. We also ask that each board member serves on one of our committees or in a specialized role.

We strongly encourage people from historically underrepresented communities to inquire. We believe diversity and inclusion strengthen our communities and workplaces. We do not discriminate based on race, gender identity, religion, age, ethnicity, disability, military status, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital status, or citizenship status.

Frequently asked Questions

Do I have to live in Lawrence to serve on the board of directors or as an advisor?

No. Our committees and board meetings are held via Zoom. Post-COVID, we will resume in-person events and you may asked to travel to attend.

Is there a financial commitment to joining as a board member?

We ask all board members to participate in fundraising and to donate themselves. As much of our operating budget comes from donations, it’s important to our culture of philanthropy that everyone participates in this aspect. Levels of giving are unique to individuals and there is no gift minimum to join. Diversity is important to our organization and one’s ability to give will not play a factor in consideration. If you’re invited to join the board of directors, our board chair and development team will discuss this further with you.

How much of a time commitment is there?

Each board member should expect to give on average about 5 hours per month while serving on the board of directors. 30 minutes per month preparing for the board meeting, 60-90 minutes for the monthly meeting itself, and about 30-60 minutes per month on other activities. Board members are also asked to serve on a committee that meets monthly for 60-90 minutes in addition to 20-30 minutes preparing for the meeting. Your initial on-boarding may take a little extra time in your first couple of months.

How do I apply?

Fill out the form below and we will be in touch. We’ll ask for you to fill out an application. You’ll meet (phone or Zoom) with our board chair and/or CEO. You’ll be invited to attend a board and/or committee meeting as a guest before the board holds a vote to accept or reject your application.

How long will I serve on the board?

Board terms are two years with an option to renew once.
